Wednesday Open House for February 1st, 2017

Why not stop by your local Meriden Makerspace, NESIT, this Wednesday? If you’ve ever wanted to create a visual aid for how a car works you can create something like this working differential. Or maybe even a working model of a Toyota 22RE Engine!

Come on down to check out the new tools and collaborate or just pass some time with like minded individuals. And check back here on the website in a few days for video of NESIT’s drawer-slide CNC. It was a scratch build by Rich with (mostly) found parts from the Makerspace!

Maker Monday Open House for Dec 18, 2016

Maker Monday is rolling around at NESIT Makerspace again this week. Why not stop by and use one of the 3D printers to spread some holiday cheer?

In time for the impending holiday Thingiverse user bqLabs has created some cute articulated Christmas figurines of notable reindeers, chubby toy distributors, and short small run production workers. Grab the STLs and make one of your own!

Maker Monday Open House

Why not stop by NESIT this Monday and collaborate on a project?

For instance: you could make your own PCB workstation designed by Giufini on Thingiverse on one of the 3D printers. Then solder yourself together a NESIT.org ATTiny controller with it and use that to fuel your own embedded electronics!

If you’ve got a MeetUp account please sign in on our MeetUp event.

Maker Monday Open House

Come on down and join NESIT for our Maker Monday open house. Hours generally run between 6:30/7:00 PM to around 10PM or whenever people filter out for the evening. Please sign up on MeetUp if you have an account.

One of the things you could be creating (in the future)? The Maslow (video) recently announced as a Kickstarter. Maslow is a 4×8 CNC for cutting full sheets of material on the cheap with nothing more than a Ridgid R2200 router with base, two bricks, and a few 2×4 studs. The folks behind it have released their designs and are fundraising to produce and ship prototype kits to send out.

Website Creation with Drupal Wednesday October 26th

Ever wonder what a CMS is or how you can get an entire website running without having to program it yourself? Drupal is one of your options!

On 10/26/2016 at 7PM NESIT member Andrew is running a workshop starting with an introduction to the software and proceeding through setting it up and getting a functioning website running.

The public is welcome! Please sign up here on Meetup.com (if possible) if you plan to attend.

Tanned Leatherworking Workshop October 19th

Join us at NESIT on October 19th from 7:00-10:00 PM for an introduction to the world of leather crafting. The workshop’s focus will be on learning how to hand tool designs on plain vegetable tanned leather which can be tooled and dyed, stained, or painted.

Once this skill is learned it can be used to make a large range of projects such as wallets, purses, belts, bolsters, and notebook covers. Tools and a practice piece of leather will be supplied for the lesson at no charge.

This instructional workshop will be lead by Kevin of Solofalcon Leather. Stop by NESIT Makerspace and learn how to create objects of art out of leather.

Make Your Costume Glow! Monday October 17th

Have you ever wanted to experiment with lighting up a costume? NESIT will be helping you make your costume glow next week on 10/17/16.

Neopixels, EL wire, and old fashioned dumb LEDs hooked into an ATmega driven Arduino are great ways to make your costuming light up and we’ll have a supply of each. Drop by and check out all the lighting mayhem just in time for Halloween.

Please sign up on our Meetup event (if possible) if you’re planning to attend.

Meriden’s Green Opening Featuring NESIT

The city of Meriden is excited to finally be opening the city’s green space park, appropriately re-labeled the Meriden Green, on the 10th of September. Which (as this is written) is this upcoming Saturday!

NESIT will be running a solar panel charging booth created by one of our members as a service to the public to help commemorate this event.

We’ll also have members stopping by at various points during the day to chat about 3D printing, leather working, systems security, metal smithing, electronical engineering, or whatever else it is they’ve been getting up to. Please stop by and say hello or to find out more about the NESIT Makerspace from the folks who make it. We’ll see you there!
